THE VILLAGE OF OINACU The Oinacu Commune is situated in the Giurgiu County,7 km away from Giurgiu and 53 km from Bucharest, the country’s capital city. The access in the commune is insured by the County Road 507.The commune advantages are connected to the existence of the highway knot situated at 3 km away from the Oinacu Centre. Neighbouring Communes are: East - Gostinu Commune, West – Giurgiu City, South- the Danube River at 3 km and in the North the villages Remus, Fratesti and Daia. The Oinacu Commune is composed by 3 villages with 3936 inhabitants: Oinacu 2071, Branistea 1166, Comasca 699. The total surface of the commune is 3844 ha .The land is very productive in wheat, barley, sun-flower, corn and soy. The main activity in the commune is agriculture, zootechny, apiculture and fishing. In the Oinacu Commune can be found: - Oinacu Town Hall; - The Culture House and the Commune’s Library (8000 volumes); - Two orthodox churches; - Three Primary Schools with 280 students and 30 teachers; - The Health Centre - 2 doctors; - The Veterinary Health Centre; - Oinacu Police Station. The Oinacu Cultural House is developing cultural activities (commemorations, literary and sportive competitions, county, national and international festivals as “Evening Sitting of Village Women”, “The Calusul Dance of Vlasca”, The International Festival of Customs and Winter Traditions “O, ce veste minunata”. The purpose of these activities is to value the national authentic dances transmitted from generation to generation, the local popular costumes, the local folkloric masks, but also to value the local customs and to restore them. The Oinacu Commune has modernised roads on a area of 9 km ,the result of a SAPARD Project, potable water pipes (13 012 m), street lighting systems, cable TV, fix telephony network and common transportation facilities. The new building of the town hall will be finished at the end of 2006. The main tourist attraction is the fish breeding. The Oinacu Commune’s Fish Pond represents a good investment opportunity.
